What We Do
The role of the Middle Temple is rich and diverse. We are proud to provide support, education and accommodation to barristers at every stage of their careers.
We have a rich heritage dating back to the Knights Templar right through to present days international network of members and our rare book and manuscript collection contains thousands of early printed books and written manuscripts.

Scholarship Fund
At Middle Temple we believe that everyone with the intelligence, fortitude, and empathy necessary to succeed at the Bar, should have the chance to pursue a career in the Law, regardless of their background. Through our Scholarship Fund, you can give more opportunities to those who need and deserve it most.
For many students, the huge financial cost of training is out of their reach. The most talented individuals have to rely upon high interest loans to pay their fees. Sadly, we know this financial burden is the reason so many drop out or defer.
Middle Temple received scholarship applications from over 400 students in early 2019 and were able to offer financial support to 105 individuals. You can help give more scholarships to those who need it most..
What we do
Education
One of the core purposes of the Inn is the education and training of students and barristers. This includes the promotion of the ethos of the Bar and the maintenance of the highest professional standards in the public interest. It also includes the provision of scholarships with the aim of providing a fair legal system that is representative of the population it serves. This is a key pillar in ensuring the trust in our system, which is necessary for a stable society.

The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple is an institution, community and physical environment with a rich, complex and fascinating history. From the arrival of the Knights Templar to the Inn’s present position at the centre of an international network of members, the Middle Temple has long been at the heart of countless intersecting spheres of history and culture.

What we do
Rare Books
The Rare Book & Manuscript Collection contains over 9,000 early printed books and approximately 300 manuscripts. The collection reflects the educational and personal interests of barristers spanning the thirteenth to nineteenth centuries. The collection contains significant early legal texts as well as a wide range of non-legal subjects, including history, poetry, travel, medicine, theology and science.
Many of these rare books are in need of conservation as their age brings with it the degradation of the materials used. On average it costs upwards of £1000 per book to have them cleaned and restored.
You can preserve this precious and fragile resource and piece of history by donating to the Rare Books Fund.
